Haven't had a ton of different beers over the last week, but it was Christmas, so obviously I had plenty to drink. The best of the new stuff: Tired Hands Frequency Illusion: Chardonnay
Description: Dry and a little oaky, much like Chardonnay (shocking). It has a tiny bit of funk when you pour the yeast from the bottom of the bottle, but there wasn't enough of it for my tastes.
What you should know: Honestly, this beer is just OK, but it was definitely the best I had. Too mild for me.
Recommendations: If you can make your way to Tired Hands, this is a great series of beers, but maybe try a different variety than Chardonnay. The Grenache is the best I've had.

Had a few random new beers, as I've been in PA the last week, and even got to check out a new brewery. The best: Conshohocken You Can't Catch Me
Description: This just tastes like Christmas. Sugary, spiced, and extra spice from the yeast.
What you should know: I love gingerbread, so there's a good chance I like this more than the average person.
Recommendations: Have some sort of Christmas-themed beer this weekend. Then wait another year before having another.

Busy week, but I still managed to have a few new beers, including one that was absolutely awesome: Tired Hands Milkstave IPA: Strawberry
Description: Strawberry milkshake, plus tartness and an intense oaky finish. This is like a NEIPA mixed with a fine old world wine.
What you should know: This is the 2nd beer I've had in this series, and the first one was even better. I'm going to be seeking these out.
Recommendations: Try to find an extra funky beer this weekend, whether it's a sour or a saison, and let it overwhelm your palate.

Hitting 4000 beers last week seems like a good time to update the site statistics. The last update was 2/18/2020, so everything since basically covers the Covid-adjusted world. Special shout out to Tree House, as I managed to have 102 (!) new beers from them in less than 2 years, making them #1 in beer volume on the site. The stats (values from last time in parentheses):
Breweries: 721 (621)
Beers: 4000 (3029)
Breweries with only 1 beer: 291 (258)
Breweries with 5+  beers: 206 (166)
Cascade highest average of those at 6 for 8 beers
Breweries with 10+ beers: 102 (81)
Toppling Goliath  highest average of those at 5.56 for 25 beers
Breweries with 25+ beers: 22 (13)
2nd to Toppling Goliath is Tired Hands at 5.39 for 36 beers
Breweries with 50+ beers: 6 (5)
Tree House 5.36 for 180
Night Shift 4.5 for 142
Trillium 5.37 for 133
Harpoon 4.32 for 88
Sam Adams 4.43 for 72
Finback 5.07 for 60

Most inconsistent breweries (biggest Standard Deviation of Ratings) with 5+ beers:
Goose Island (4.18 avg rating), Crooked Stave (4.29), Viewpoint (4), Bear Republic (4.5), Shipyard (3.67)
Most consistent breweries with 5+ beers:
Cascade (6), Cheeky Monkey (4), Gneiss (4), West Sixth (5.17), Southern Pacific (3.8)
Worst Beer (still unlikely to ever change):
Newport Storm Hurricane Amber Ale
Breweries with at least 1 beer 6 or higher rating: 274 (222)
Breweries with 5+ beers with 6 or higher rating: 48 (28)
Breweries with 10+ beers with 6 or higher rating: 16 (10)
Breweries with more than 1 7 beer: 8 (6 last year) - Southern Tier still has 3, and Trillium is also up to 3 now. Tree House has 13, up 4 from last year, to extend their dominance in the category
Beers rated 7 Shyoh's: 59 (46)
Beers rated 6 Shyoh's: 864 (569)
Beers rated 5 Shyoh's: 1392 (1044)
Beers rated 4 Shyoh's: 1188 (965)
Beers rated 3 Shyoh's: 395 (327)
Beers rated 2 Shyoh's: 89 (68)
Beers rated 1 Shyoh   : 13 (10)

Mostly good, plenty of not so good beers since the last update. Cheers!

4000th Beer Special Beer of the Week: The Veil The Weapon: Exhibit C

It's been 673 days since I posted the 3000th beer special, so I've set a pretty good pace (1.49 new beers/day). Added a whole bunch of stuff that I acquired over Thanksgiving, and I had some incredible options across a variety of styles. My favorite is from a brewery I hadn't had before, but will definitely have again: The Veil The Weapon: Exhibit C
Description: This is just an alcoholic fruit smoothie. Super thick, and so much fruit flavor with just a hint of tartness.
What you should know: This is part of a series of beers where The Veil removed specific ingredients from one of their beers that's a fruited sour IPA. This version had the hops removed, and it sure doesn't need them.
Recommendations: Try some new beers this weekend. Maybe you'll get on my pace. If not, at least you'll probably find something new that you'll want to get again.

Beer of the Week: The Bruery Terreux Goses Are Red 2021

I'm a little behind on these due to a hectic week last week, so I'm going to do 2 this week. The first: The Bruery Terreux Goses Are Red 2021
Description: Claims to be a gose and also a rosé-style beer. I don't really get the 2nd part (or any of the funkiness I expect from oak aging), but it's a nice balance of fruity and tart that leaves you with tartness after you put it down.
What you should know: I had just had a couple horrible beers right before this one, so it tasted extra good at first.
Recommendations: Have a few midweek beers this week. I know I could use one, so you probably can too.
