Finback Brewery

Queens, NY

Picture
Finback A Thousand Years
Imperial Stout - 10.3% ABV
Pete
This is extremely good. It is a little bitter in the finish. Going down it's just tons of chocolate and toffee, super rich.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Acid Green
Imperial IPA - 10% ABV
Pete
Plenty of citrus flavor, but it comes off as too sweet/boozy for my tastes.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback AOC
Imperial IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Super citrusy, but the dominant experience with this beer is the creaminess. A rich IPA with a citrusy background. Really good, as I expect from Finback at this point (this is my 22nd beer from them 4/22/19).

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Apple Pie
Sour - 6% ABV
Pete
This literally tastes like apple pie that was made with apples that were on the sour side (Granny Smith maybe).

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Bird God
Imperial New England IPA - 9.1% ABV
Pete
Super creamy, as you might expect from the color, and tons of citrus, with a tiny hint of earthiness. Really well rounded, except I think it's like 1% ABV too much, as it's on the edge of too sweet.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback BQE '17
Russian Imperial Stout - 9.2% ABV
Pete
Amazing. Rich, chocolatey, just plain delicious. It's not going to go down too quick, since it's so thick, but it's strong, so it doesn't have to. Savor it.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback BQE '18
Imperial Stout - 10% ABV
Pete
Bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with sea salt and caramel. It tastes exactly like it sounds. Unreal.

Picture
Finback Brainalyzer
Imperial New England IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
This tastes like tropical candied fruit. On the sweet side, but enough fruity/citrus flavors to make that work in an awesome beer.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Brand New Family
Kölsch - 5.2% ABV
Pete
This is a nice, very easy to drink beer. It doesn't have a ton of flavor, but it goes down smooth. I drank it so fast that I forgot to take a picture.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Breathing: Conversations
Imperial New England IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
So much citrus flavor, good old fashioned juice bomb, yet somehow it's super light. It's dangerously easy to drink at 8%.

Picture
Finback Canada Spritz
Imperial Brut IPA - 8.5% ABV
Pete
Really tasty, extremely dry, IPA. Collaboration with Collective Arts. It claims to be a take on a rosé. I get it. A little fruity, and super dry (how I like my rosé). I had this in November though, maybe they should release it in the summer.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Cat Tails
Imperial New England IPA - 9% ABV
Pete
Ultra hazy/creamy. The flavor comes off a bit too sweet for me, as most IPA's with an ABV this high tend to do.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Cats Are Forever
Imperial IPA - 9% ABV
Pete
Citrus background. Super super creamy (any more would be too much), with a sweetness that comes from an IPA this strong, and a touch of peppery from the hops. All those things come together in an awesome way.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Chromoscope
Imperial New England IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Loads up citrus up front with a dry zesty finish. Excellent beer.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Citra Drip
Imperial New England IPA - 9% ABV
Pete
Definitely heavy on the citra hops, pretty distinct vegetal flavor too from the cryo. It's also extremely boozy, which detracts from the nice hop flavors a bit.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Condition Green
Imperial IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Super creamy but this is lacking in flavor a bit, which allows too much sweetness from the high alcohol to creep in. Still good, but not what I've come to expect.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Coquito
Milk Stout - 8.2% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Mikkeller. Delicious sweet stout with good depth of flavor, finishing chocolatey. You get some of the spices to balance out the sweetness.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Crush Together
Imperial New England IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
I'm always hesitant to get a coconut beer that isn't a stout, and I'm usually hoping I can't taste it. Well, in this case, I can taste it, but it's mellow, and it is the perfect complement for the strong pineapple and orange flavors. Incredible flavor bomb.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Deluxe
IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Civil Society. Unreal beer. Tons of mango and overripe melon. Creamy texture with lots of flavor.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Dematerialize
New England IPA - 7.8% ABV
Pete
Color is lighter than the picture implies. Super juicy. Smells like it's going to be ridiculously creamy, but it's not overpowering. Just a big ole juice bomb with a slightly peppery bite. Awesome.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Detachable
New England IPA - 7% ABV
Pete
Dry, zesty, creamy, and tropical all at the same time. There's also a tiny bit of coconut. The zestiness dominates the flavor as it warms, though I only know that because my first one was kind of warm already - it goes down super fast.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Doggo
Imperial New England IPA - 9% ABV
Pete
Sweet candied citrus on the way down, with a peppery finish that balances it out perfectly. I usually don't love IPA's this strong, but this one is about as good as it gets.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Double Something Cashmere
Imperial IPA - 8.5% ABV
Pete
This is solid, but Cashmere is more of an accent hop for me. I like the dank-ness of it, but as a feature hop it imparts too much coconut-like flavor for me.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Double Something Citra
Imperial New England IPA - 8.5% ABV
Pete
Tastes like a ripe to slightly overripe melon. It has a little bit of a sugary aftertaste like you didn't quite finish chewing your bite of melon. Really tasty.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Double Something Mosaic
Imperial New England IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Smells like candied orange. The flavor is similar with some peppery at the end. It's good, but it is definitely a bit too sweet for me.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Ecosphere
Berliner Weisse - 5% ABV
Pete
Really refreshing beer. Just a hint of cherry with a mild tartness and above average carbonation.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Fat Mango
American IPA - 7.6% ABV
Pete
Described as a "mango sticky rice IPA", and boy does it nail that flavor. It's just wayyyyyyy too much coconut for me. I do like beers with a hint of it, but it's dominant here. Definitely stay away if you don't like coconut.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Foamies
Imperial IPA - 8.2% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Humble Sea (haven't had any of those as of 3/11/21). This smells a lot better than it tastes. Flavor is citrus with a bunch of coconut, and I don't like coconut in my IPA's. I must not like Lotus hops.

Ratings: Pete - 3 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Frothy
Imperial IPA - 8.5% ABV
Pete
This has a lot of the things I want: a little dank, creamy, and peppery, but for some reason it didn't blow me away. Good, not great, but I can't put my finger on why.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Grapefruit Crush
Imperial IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Ultra ripe melon flavor, and it's pretty amped up, especially for melon. Delicious. I don't get grapefruit at all, but that's fine.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Hang About
IPA - 5% ABV
Pete
Impressible amount of flavor especially given low-ish ABV. It tastes like a lime creamsicle.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Harambe
Imperial Stout - 8.6% ABV
Pete
Awesome beer with a lot going on. Dark chocolate flavor stands out the most, but there's also some toffee in there, and maybe a little coffee flavor too.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Heliopause
Sour Saison - 5.8% ABV
Pete
I was pretty hammered when I had this, but this is what I wrote: "That's damn good. Sour but not crazy. Fruity but not girly. Alcohol but not boozy. I'm not funny"

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Highlighter
American IPA - 7.2% ABV
Pete
Really good IPA. Was hoping for more guava up front. It's definitely there, but doesn't dominate. Just a very well made IPA with a slight guava edge.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback I Feel The Universe
Gose - 5% ABV
Pete
Pretty sour on the lips with a salty finish. That finish sounds bad but really it's just enough to get you past the initial sourness and make you ready for more. I don't really taste the passion fruit, but there is a hint of general fruitiness. Great sour.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback I See You
Imperial New England IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Super creamy texture. The flavor is obviously melon and a hint of sweetness. It's somewhat mellow, because cantaloupe is mellow, but it's very good.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback IPA
American IPA - 7.2% ABV
Pete
Incredible "old school" IPA. It's bitter, with a touch of malt, and a ton of hoppy flavor. I also detect a tiny bit of funk, but not much.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Knife Party
Imperial Sour IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
This is a lot. A sour double IPA with cherry, vanilla, and sumac. I think there is too much vanilla, not enough cherry. I don't really get any spiciness. Pretty weird.

Ratings: Pete - 3 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Koselig Øl
Imperial New England IPA - 8.2% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with LERVIG. It's exactly what you'd expect from an imperial NEIPA. Juicy, hazy, no bitterness. A little bit of creaminess.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Lexicon
New England IPA - 6% ABV
Pete
Creamy and a blast of hoppy flavors that's especially impressive at this relatively approachable alcohol level. Mostly citrus (can't really pinpoint any specific fruits) with some earthiness to it also.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Life Form
Imperial New England IPA - 8.2% ABV
Pete
Another great NEIPA. Good amount of citrus comes through, and a ton of creaminess. I think there's a little too much creaminess to it, as it distracts from the citrus flavors a bit, but it's still delicious.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Me
IPA - 6.8% ABV
Pete
Incredible IPA. Overripe tropical fruit flavors combined with some creaminess really makes it seem like you're having a super soft mango that happens to get you drunk. Plus, just look at it, looks glorious. In the poll, please rate the beer, don't actually rate me, I'd rather not know.

Finback Micro Plastics
Imperial New England IPA - 8.5% ABV

Super super creamy, like eating super-ripe fruit. It sticks with you for awhile after putting it down. Usually this much creaminess doesn't work for me, but this one does.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Moiré
Sour IPA - 6.2% ABV
Pete
A little tart, a lot of vanilla, and not much hops. Doesn't really work for me. Vanilla and IPA is a weird mix.

Finback Monoculture
New England IPA - 7.1% ABV

This is exactly what you'd expect from the style. Slightly under ripe tropical citrus. Plenty of fruitiness going down with a refreshingly dry finish.

Finback No Fun
New England IPA - 7.5% ABV
Pete
Juice bomb that's a little on the sweet side, but not overwhelming by any means. Dangerously easy to drink. My favorite Finback so far (10/1/19 - 29th one I've had).

Finback Oscillation 013
Imperial IPA - 8% ABV

Not a ton of flavor, finishes creamy. It's not bad, but not really worth the premium price it'll run you.

Finback Out To Lunch
New England IPA - 6.5% ABV
Pete
This is awesome. It has an intense citrus flavor that's even more impressive given that this isn't an imperial. The cryo hops really get the job done.

Picture
Finback Polyphonic
Imperial IPA - 8.6% ABV
Pete
Absolutely incredible beer. Smells of mango, and the flavor backs that up. Texture is super creamy and leaves you with a creamy aftertaste/sensation on the tongue. Pretty expensive (I paid about $20 for a 4 pack of pints), but totally worth it, especially when you realize that 4 pack has as much alcohol as 11 Bud Lights (and infinitely more flavor).

Picture
Finback Rainbow Cookie
Imperial Stout - 10.2% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Great Notion (haven't had any from them as of 4/18/19). Literally smells like a cookie. Hides the booze well. It's very flavorful, but extremely sweet. This would probably be amazing in a 5oz serving, but it became a bit of a chore to finish 12 ounces due to that sweetness.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Randomly Assembled
IPA - 7.5% ABV

A lot of dry zesty flavor to this one. Not your typical citrusy creamy NEIPA, and it's a great change of pace.

Finback Red Shift
Sour - 5.4% ABV
Pete
This claimed to be cranberry and yuzu. I believe it, but I couldn't pinpoint those flavors, just generally a little fruity with some mild sourness to it. It had a little saltiness that balanced it quite nicely. Really really good sour.

Finback Rolling In Clouds
American IPA - 7.1% ABV
Pete
Really excellent. Pillowy texture, with aromas of grapefruit and lemon that are backed up in the flavor. It's a touch bitter, but in a grapefruit and lemon kind of way, not in a punch you in the face with hops kind of way. Well balanced.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Shadowless
Stout - 7.4% ABV
Pete
Extremely dark, pretty rich chocolate flavor with a subtle spicy undertone, presumably from the sesame and matcha (not that I could pinpoint those flavors while drinking it). Awesome.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Finback Simultaneously
IPA - 6% ABV
Pete
Incredible beer. Huge blast of under-ripe tropical citrus flavors, which gives it a slightly dry edge in the finish in addition to the fruitiness. Extra impressive amount of flavor given that it's not an imperial.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Finback Sorta Queens
Imperial New England IPA - 9% ABV

Finback Stellar Waves
Imperial New England IPA - 10% ABV

Finback Yellow Cake
Lactose IPA - 7.3% ABV

Smell is ultra vanilla-y. The taste is basically the lemon cake at Del Frisco's (a must-have IMO). It's a little odd at first because it really is a liquid dessert, but once you accept that, it's glorious.
