Beer of the Week: Adroit Theory Moment of Impact (Ghost 1110)

I'm all caught up and posting early this week as I'm going away for the weekend. I had some great beers this past weekend, the best of which was Adroit Theory Moment of Impact
Description: Smells pretty boozy, which is going to happen at 12% ABV. You don't notice that at all in the flavor though. Dark chocolate and coffee dominate, leading to a somewhat bitter, ultra-dark stout.
What you should know: The trend of strong stouts these days seems to be super sweet dessert beers, but this is an old school Russian imperial style. It's definitely bitter, but in a coffee/dark chocolate way, not an imperial west coast IPA way.
Recommendations: Try to find yourself a beer that leans away from the sweet trend this weekend. You might remember why beers were all that way only a few years ago.

Beer of the Week: Equilibrium Raspberry Dimensions

Went on a trip to New Orleans last week. Unfortunately, nothing great came out of that trip beer-wise, as there was a lot of light beers and drinking games going on. Fortunately, I had some good stuff at home, including Equilibrium Raspberry Dimensions
Description: This is a sour IPA that leans closer to sour than IPA. It's nice and tart from the raspberry and lime (although the lime is much more subtle). There's also some earthy flavors from the hops and a little creaminess. It's not quite smoothie-like, but it's on its way there.
What you should know: This is the first sour IPA I've had from Equilibrium, and I'll definitely get more. That said, it doesn't live up to Hudson Valley's mastery of the style.
Recommendations: Find yourself a beer that's in between styles and experiment.

Beer of the Week: Faces Wildberry Mahalo

Added at least 20 beers this week to catch up on a busy couple weeks. Adding this early this week as I'll be at a bachelor party the rest of the week - assume many beers will be consumed. The best of the 20+: Faces Wildberry Mahalo
Description: This is ultra-drinkable. It's pretty tart, but with lots of berry flavor without being too sweet, and a hint of saltiness to make it go down even faster.
What you should know: This is the first of 7 beers I had at this brewery in one night, and it was the best by far. There were a few others that were quite good, and nothing that was actually bad. I definitely recommend heading to the brewery if you get a chance.
Recommendations: Go to a small local brewery this weekend, even if it's just to pick up beer to-go.

Beer of the Week: Hudson Valley Confetti: Orange & Lime

I went to town since my last post, including trips to multiple breweries, getting a bunch of singles at the store, and a trip to my favorite beer bar. The best I had: Hudson Valley Confetti: Orange & Lime
Description: Light body and very tart flavor. Lime up front is pretty puckering, then the orange comes through in the finish with a little sweetness to balance it, though this is still a tart beer at heart.
What you should know: I had a whole bunch of mediocre beers in a row right before this one, so it really stood out.
Recommendations: If you have a beer you don't really love this weekend, keep getting new beers until you find one you do. Eventually, you'll either get a good one, or you'll be too drunk to know the difference. You win either way.

Beer of the Week: Tired Hands Frequency Illusion: Chardonnay

Haven't had a ton of different beers over the last week, but it was Christmas, so obviously I had plenty to drink. The best of the new stuff: Tired Hands Frequency Illusion: Chardonnay
Description: Dry and a little oaky, much like Chardonnay (shocking). It has a tiny bit of funk when you pour the yeast from the bottom of the bottle, but there wasn't enough of it for my tastes.
What you should know: Honestly, this beer is just OK, but it was definitely the best I had. Too mild for me.
Recommendations: If you can make your way to Tired Hands, this is a great series of beers, but maybe try a different variety than Chardonnay. The Grenache is the best I've had.

Had a few random new beers, as I've been in PA the last week, and even got to check out a new brewery. The best: Conshohocken You Can't Catch Me
Description: This just tastes like Christmas. Sugary, spiced, and extra spice from the yeast.
What you should know: I love gingerbread, so there's a good chance I like this more than the average person.
Recommendations: Have some sort of Christmas-themed beer this weekend. Then wait another year before having another.

Beer of the Week: Tired Hands Milkstave IPA: Strawberry

Busy week, but I still managed to have a few new beers, including one that was absolutely awesome: Tired Hands Milkstave IPA: Strawberry
Description: Strawberry milkshake, plus tartness and an intense oaky finish. This is like a NEIPA mixed with a fine old world wine.
What you should know: This is the 2nd beer I've had in this series, and the first one was even better. I'm going to be seeking these out.
Recommendations: Try to find an extra funky beer this weekend, whether it's a sour or a saison, and let it overwhelm your palate.

4000th Beer Special Beer of the Week: The Veil The Weapon: Exhibit C

It's been 673 days since I posted the 3000th beer special, so I've set a pretty good pace (1.49 new beers/day). Added a whole bunch of stuff that I acquired over Thanksgiving, and I had some incredible options across a variety of styles. My favorite is from a brewery I hadn't had before, but will definitely have again: The Veil The Weapon: Exhibit C
Description: This is just an alcoholic fruit smoothie. Super thick, and so much fruit flavor with just a hint of tartness.
What you should know: This is part of a series of beers where The Veil removed specific ingredients from one of their beers that's a fruited sour IPA. This version had the hops removed, and it sure doesn't need them.
Recommendations: Try some new beers this weekend. Maybe you'll get on my pace. If not, at least you'll probably find something new that you'll want to get again.

Beer of the Week: The Bruery Terreux Goses Are Red 2021

I'm a little behind on these due to a hectic week last week, so I'm going to do 2 this week. The first: The Bruery Terreux Goses Are Red 2021
Description: Claims to be a gose and also a rosé-style beer. I don't really get the 2nd part (or any of the funkiness I expect from oak aging), but it's a nice balance of fruity and tart that leaves you with tartness after you put it down.
What you should know: I had just had a couple horrible beers right before this one, so it tasted extra good at first.
Recommendations: Have a few midweek beers this week. I know I could use one, so you probably can too.

Beer of the Week: Tree House Big Chocolate

Unfortunately, I finished the last of my Tree House stash. Fortunately, that means I got to drink more Tree House. No surprise that the best of the bunch was: Tree House Big Chocolate
Description: Aptly named. All of the chocolate flavors. Fudge, milk chocolate sauce, brownies, all in one delicious beverage that somehow isn't even too sweet.
What you should know: The crop of new stouts this year seems to be especially good. There will be more highlighted on here as I plan on drinking all of them.
Recommendations: You can drink this with your dessert or with a salty snack - it plays with either, but I suggest pretzels.
