Since I don't feel like going out tonight, and with game 2 of the Stanley Cup and game 4 of Spurs/Thunder, I figured it was a good night to write a diary.
8:08 - Harpoon Leviathan Great Scott - 10.2% ABV - Before the games start, I'm watching the beginning of Transformers 2, trying to decide if Megan Fox or the no-name alien blonde is hotter. This could become a common topic in this diary. The beer: starting the night off right with one that will put me on my ass. It has some good malty flavors, but it is hard to hide the 10% alcohol in the finish. A good burn, but it might take forever to drink. 8:41 - Wachusett Summer - 4.7% ABV - Kings have taken a lead, I love watching playoff hockey. I haven't seen a single Spurs game all year, and I'm not really a big NBA fan, but Bill Simmons' diary of game 2 made me want to watch them play. They really are impressive to watch, up early. The beer: nice change of pace here. Light, lemony, and very carbonated. An easy drinker. It shouldn't take me long. 8:57 - Brooklyn East India Pale Ale - 6.9% ABV - Megatron is resurrected, Kings up 1-0 at first intermission, and hoops is a close game. I have to say that as a Flyers fan, I'm rooting for the Kings, but as a hockey fan, I'm rooting for Martin Brodeur. The man is unreal. The beer: It is pretty good. Not as bitter as I expected, and it has some fruitiness to it. 9:14 - Smuttynose Star Island Single - 4.7% ABV - Isabel Lucas's part in the movie is over, and she did not disappoint. She reminds me of Elle MacPherson, which is definitely not a bad thing. My vote is leaning towards her, but Megan Fox has some time to change my mind. In the meantime, Serge Ibaka looks like the best player in a game where he might not be in the top 5. The beer: Nice light lemon flavor, but nothing to write home about. 9:45 - Wachusett IPA - 5.6% ABV - Thunder and Kings both look dominant, but the Devils have Brodeur and the Spurs have Duncan, so who knows. The beer: tastes like a rye beer, a flavor that takes some getting used to, but it is pretty good. 10:09 - Stone Levitation Ale - 4.4% ABV - Serge Ibaka still looks like the best player in the game. 9-9 from the field. Good time to bring him to the bench so SA can come back... I don't think anyone would be surprised if this hockey game ended 1-0. The 2 best players are the goalies. The beer: an amber ale, although tasiting it you'd think it's an IPA. The defining flavor is definitely the hops. Very good. 10:36 - Wachusett Green Monsta IPA - 6% ABV - GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL. Devils break through and score and now look like the better team. I love watching hockey. My drinking pace sucks though. The beer: awesome name, and it is pretty good. Essentially just a mild version of an IPA. 11:00 - Wachusett Country Pale Ale - 5% ABV - Hockey game going to OT, The Fallen is dead, and Durant decided that the Thunder were going to win. How did he only take 4 shots in the 1st half? With only 1/3 TV options remaining (hockey), it is time to do some surfing, and turns out Kill Bill Vol. 2 is on. Hard to beat that. Also, Independence Day. With OT hockey on though, I don't expect much commercial time. The beer: Very mild, an easy drinker. Not great. 11:11 - Weird full moon comment by hockey announcer that I didn't get. 11:25 - SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE - Jeff Carter. Could the Flyers have used him in the playoffs this year? Can someone really party too much? If you're that good, does it matter? Has the Flyers front office hear of Babe Ruth? 11:30 - Stone IPA - 6.9% ABV - Moved on to the 2 movies. Pai Mei might be my favorite side character in any movie. I'm in deep thought now trying to list a good crew for a new poll. The first one that comes to mind other than Pai Mei is in the other movie that I'm watching. That'd be cousin Eddie from the Vacation movies, who plays a good role in Independence Day. 12:20 - Troegs Troegenator - 8.2% ABV - I stopped drinking, then asked myself the simple question, "Why?", so now I am drinking again with beers I have had before, starting with a strong one from near my hometown that is a real winner. Loving the movies. |
