With Stanley Cup hockey on and Eastern Conference Game 7 (2012), it seemed like the perfect day for a diary. Here it goes. I've got a Sam Adams IPA variety pack, so things are about to get weird. Here goes nothing.
7:48 - Grumpy Monk - 5.7% - I wanted to get a start before the games come on, and I can't decide what movie I want to watch during the early commercials. I have an allegiance to Denzel, so I'm going to go with The Book of Eli over Mean Girls, the end of The Break-Up, and The Patriot. If you've never seen it, it is one you DEFINITELY need to see twice, and after seeing it once, you might want to make the 2nd time right away. I am very pleased with this beer, as it has nice sweet and citrusy flavors before hitting you with the hop bitterness. 8:12 - Dark Depths - 7.6% - Hockey game about to start, slow 1st beer, but that will pick up I think. This is another winner. A black IPA that definitely leans toward the black side. The bitterness isn't obvious, as the chocolate maltiness is the main flavor. 8:35 - Tasman Red - 6.5% - Exciting hockey so far but no score. I've had this beer before but didn't remember what it was like. Now I know why. It has some sweet maltiness going down and some bitterness in the finish, but not enough of either to really jump out at me. Good beer, but not great. 8:55 - Third Voyage - 8% - A computer crash didn't stunt my drinking, but I did miss the goal in the hockey game. This game has potential to be great. Game 7 has started. Rondo lays on the floor for long enough to scare the entire Celtics nation. The beer is pretty damn good. I was pleasantly surprised by the maltiness going down, and it has some citrus flavor in the expected bitter finish of the double IPA. 9:26 - Latitude 48 - 6% - Somehow hockey got tied, missed it again. Celtics look better than the Heat, but with Garnett in foul trouble, that could change. Barstool is going to be crying fix if this ends up in a Heat win, and it might be for good reason. In a span of 30 seconds, I see the Devils take the lead and take an idiotic penalty. I also mixed in a few seconds of Eli, and decided Mila Kunis might be the best actress to use in a movie where you expect her to be fully clothed the entire time. She has arguably the best face in the game (I think it's the eyes), and she can actually act. The beer: one of their commercial options, for good reason. 9:55 - Whitewater - 5.8% - It's halftime and 2nd intermission, and the movie is in commercial. What do I do? Drink. This beer is another commercial option, a combo of a Belgian Wheat and an IPA, which for me competes with imperial stout for specific style with the most potential. This isn't the best white IPA I've had, but it is a damn good beer. Round 2 10:17 - Grumpy Monk - Took me almost 2.5 hours to finish the first round. Time to pick it up. With the revelation of The Book of Eli completed (pun 100% intended, for those who have seen it), I can focus on sports. Hockey is still 2-1 NJD, but the Heat have made a run in hoops, this could get great. For those who are wondering, the average ABV of these beers is 6.6%: I am not sober. 10:44 - Dark Depths - Don't remember when I started this beer, as I forgot I was writing a diary, but I'm currently 1/3 done. The games are exciting, and now I officially won't see Prometheus because Stephen A. Smith just appeared in a commercial for it. I hate him. 10:59 - Tasman Red - Congrats to Martin Brodeur, who essentially won the game by himself. Also congrats to the NBA, who looks like they are about to get the finals matchup they were openly rooting for. By the way, that was a questionable move for a league already known for fixing games. Just laughed out loud to a SportsCenter commercial with Maria Sharapova getting special treatment because she's hot. I expect it to be true. 11:14 - Congrats to the Heat, I am going to continue on and maybe actually do something tonight. |
