The Final 4 is here (2012), and, despite my thoughts during the Elite 8, I can still win some money (fake of course, since gambling is illegal). I just need Kansas to beat Ohio State and 80 bucks is mine. That's it. I picked up a Sam Adams Brewer's Choice Variety Pack for the occasion. I love that their variety packs have 6 different beers in them. Ideal.
6:14 - Mighty Oak Ale - 5.7% ABV - At tipoff I crack the only type I haven't had, and a huge rush of sweetness comes to my nose immediately. I don't love the beer, but it's definitely not bad. 6:30 - Boston Lager - 4.9% ABV - Kentucky is too good. For beer 2, I went to old faithful, one of the best mass-produced domestic beers, and a personal go-to at the bar. Beware, Sam Adams tastes different at bars in Boston. Since it is fresher, the hops have less time to mellow out. 6:52 - Alpine Spring - 5.5% ABV - Louisville hanging in. I went with nice, lighter beer. This is a good one, a nice honey citrusy flavor. 7:22 - Irish Red - 5.8% ABV - Halftime. A time to play some gameboy online. That link is possibly the best website ever made. This beer is pretty good. A darker, maltier version of a standard red ale. Side note - I just need to mention that the Louisville cheerleaders are very attractive. 7:51 - Whitewater IPA - 5.8% ABV - Kentucky still looks great, but somehow Louisville is hanging in. Good thing, even though I picked UK, I have nothing riding on this game. The beer: nice citrusy IPA. Definitely worth getting. 8:09 - Black Lager - 4.9% ABV - After a scare where Louisville looked like they might take over, Kentucky figured it out. Everyone picked them to win for a reason. The beer: dark and malty, but relatively light, another one worth getting. 8:21 - Game over - It was a great effort by Louisville, but let's be honest, every team is inferior to Kentucky right now. 8:46 - Mighty Oak Ale - As game 2 approaches, round 2 of these beers begins. I'm going to get my least favorite out of the way ASAP. Watching the first Lord of the Rings in the meantime, which leads to the following question: Which hero/villain wizard battle to the death would you rather watch in its entirety? See poll to the right. Personally, I'm going with Dumbledore vs. Voldemort - cooler spells. 9:20 - Boston Lager - There was no inspiration to drink the last beer until the game came on. It is a close one so far. Now that I got rid of the worst beer, I wanted to go with the best one. No reason to waste it by saving it until when I'll be too drunk to care what it tastes like. Commercials of the game, watching Lord of the Rings, led to this quote "rock gods tend to make hot children....thanks to their smokeshow girlfriends." This obviously referred to Liv Tyler --> 9:48 - Alpine Spring - What the hell happened? How did it take 28 minutes to drink a Boston Lager? I need to figure it out. As does Kansas. I just want them to try to get within 7 by halftime. Update - they got it to 9, close enough. 10:23 - Whitewater IPA - Halftime gave me no inspiration once again. I switched up the order. I wanted the IPA right now. Anyway, it's a 5 point game. 80 bucks still looking possible. 10:53 - Black Lager - Definitely struggling. Had to go with the better of the 2 remaining because I'm not sure if I'm making it til number 12. Anyway, this is a great game. Kansas doing just enough to make me able to hope for a win. This dude Kraft from Ohio State needs to figure out the cheek thing. What the hell is going on there? 11:02 - No new beer, but it's time to start commenting on the game. Kansas is actually looking good. Great game. Unfortunately, my sister wins pools every year, and she picked Ohio State to win the whole thing. So much for me. 11:07 - That Kraft dude must've read this during a timeout. He is so good. 11:11 - Wishes do come true. Kansas take the lead!!!!!!!!!!!! 11:13 - OSU down 3, KS travels, 25 seconds left wow. After a frantic possession, OSU dunks. 11:19 - Sweet victory. 11:27 - After inspection, it appears I need Kentucky to win in order to actually win anything. That sucks. But at the same time, should I be worried? |
