Harpoon Brewery

Boston, MA (This is page 2. See pages 1, 3, 4, and 5. Page 1 has a description of the brewery itself.)

Harpoon Dark
Dunkelweizen - 5.5% ABV
Pete
This beer's name doesn't exactly give you much insight into what to expect. That being said, since it is a dunkelweizen, and 'dunkel' means dark, it makes sense to me now. It is a very good beer, with a prevailing malty flavor that is a real winner.

Harpoon Don't Be Bitter
IPA - 7.5% ABV
Pete
Kind of tasteless. Goes down pretty easy with maybe a little bit of citrus, but really this just isn't much.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Harpoon Don't Poke The Bear
Golden Ale - 5.14% ABV
Pete
Pretty mediocre, mild flavored - probably ideal for the volume-based Bruins crowd, but not for me.

Picture
Harpoon Dragon Weisse
Berliner Weisse - 4.6% ABV
Pete
Really light and just not enough going on for me.

Picture
Harpoon Dunkin' Coffee Porter
Porter - 6% ABV
Pete
New England novelty. Actually tastes more like coffee than any beer I've ever tasted. It's basically coffee with a ton of sugar, which makes sense for Dunkin'.

Picture
Harpoon Eclypso
Brown IPA - 5.1% ABV
Pete
Pictured on the right. I like this combo. A little bitter, a little hoppy, and a little bit of roastiness to it. Big fan.

Picture
Harpoon El Triunfo Coffee Porter
Porter - 6% ABV
Pete
This is one of the best porters you will ever have. It has some nice chocolatey sweetness that balances the coffee flavor nicely. It's worth paying a little extra to get a bottle of this guy.

Picture
Harpoon Flannel Friday
Amber Ale - 5.7% ABV
Pete
I had to try this out of loyalty to Harpoon. It's a style I don't like and, predictably, I didn't like this one. It was actually kind of hard to drink. Just not a fan.

Picture
Harpoon For the Frontline
Amber Ale - 5% ABV
Pete
For a good cause, but I do not like this style, and this isn't the best version either.

Picture
Harpoon Fresh Tracks
Pale Ale - 6.2% ABV
Pete
Just not enough flavor for me here.

Picture
Harpoon Ghost Dance
Grisette - 4.1% ABV
Pete
Pretty funky, a little spice. Good amount of flavor, lots of carbonation. I could drink a bunch of these.

Picture
Harpoon 100 Barrel Series #42: Ginger Wheat
Pale Wheat Ale - 7% ABV
Pete
This is super mild, and goes down really without you noticing it, which I guess is good for a 7% beer. I really wanted more ginger flavor, and this just didn't have much. If you're looking for a mild wheat beer with a hint of ginger, this could be for you, but it's not for me.

Picture
Harpoon Hoppy Adventure
Imperial IPA - 7.8% ABV
Pete
This was surprisingly mild for something labeled a "double IPA". It isn't too bitter, and is pretty easy to drink.

Picture
Harpoon X Night: Hot Chocolate Milk Stout
Milk Stout - 5.19% ABV
Pete
Fairly sweet and chocolatey, but not to much to make it hard to drink. Quite good.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Harpoon House Golden
Golden Ale - 4.7% ABV
Pete
Easy to drink, but not the most flavorful of beers.

Ratings: Pete - 3 Shyoh's

Picture
Harpoon Hybrid Remote
New England IPA - 6.5% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Clown Shoes (which Harpoon owns, so I don't understand how it's a collaboration), brewed exclusively for the Catalyst restaurant in Cambridge, MA. Usually I don't like restaurant-specific beers, but this is pretty good. It's more west-coast than NEIPA honestly (more bitter than juicy), but it's good.

Picture
Harpoon Imperial Pumpkin
Pumpkin Stout - 10.5 % ABV
Pete
This is an outstanding pumpkin beer. It isn't pure pumpkin. The fact that it's a stout and incredibly strong gives it more than just the simple pumpkin note. It's not as good as Pumking, but it's pretty damn close.

Picture
Harpoon Imperial Stout
Imperial Stout - 8.53% ABV
Pete
Pictured on the left. It's a dry stout. Pretty light body, with a fairly mild flavor. Very drinkable given the color and alcohol content.

Picture
Harpoon Interrobang
Imperial Stout - 18% ABV
Pete
This is described as a cold brew espresso stout. I couldn't pinpoint that flavor. I am not sure how, but I tasted black pepper in this. It doesn't taste all that strong, but I'm afraid I can't do it justice as it was too complex for me.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Harpoon IPA
IPA - 5.9% ABV
Pete
This is an above average IPA. It has the bitterness of the hops, but they are toned down for an IPA. You get a little more beer flavor than a standard IPA because it isn't that bitter.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Harpoon Juicer
IPA - 6.6% ABV
Pete
Outstanding beer. Super citrusy as the name suggests, and a little bit extra body from the oats makes it a tiny bit creamy on the tongue. Real winner here, I hope this becomes a full-time beer.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Harpoon Juicer 2
IPA - 6.6% ABV
Pete
Pretty delicious beer. It's somewhere between Juicer and the original IPA. Mellower than Juicer, with some of the bitterness of the IPA. Still a great beer, but I was a bit disappointed after the first Juicer.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Harpoon Juicer 3
IPA - 6.6% ABV
Pete
Very good beer. Hoppy with a bit of bitterness, a lot like Juicer 2, but also finishes with a bit of spiciness, presumably from the rye, which I like a lot.

Picture
Harpoon Lemongrass Spearmint Hefeweizen
Hefeweizen - ?.??% ABV
Pete
There is no information on this beer anywhere, but I definitely had it on tap at a bar in Boston. The name of the beer was written in chalk on the tap. I can tell you that my best guess for why I can't find anything about this online is that Harpoon wants to pretend like they didn't make it. It is completely terrible. Lemongrass and spearmint are 2 ingredients that should never be put in beers, and this has both of them. Just awful.

Ratings: Pete - 2 Shyoh's

Picture
Harpoon Leviathan Great Scott
Wee Heavy - 10.2% ABV
Pete
This beer has some nice malty flavors, but for the price, it isn't all that great. It is very hard to hide the amount of alcohol in this one, and it has a burn going down.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Harpoon Leviathan IPA
Imperial IPA - 10% ABV
Pete
This is a very strong beer. And it tastes like it. Definitely a sipper

Ratings: Pete - 3 Shyoh's

Picture
Harpoon Leviathan Single Hop
Imperial IPA - 10% ABV
Pete
This is the beer on the bottom right. It is pretty darn bitter, but pretty darn tasty. The hops come through in more ways that just bitterness. Nice.
