Pure Project Brewing

San Diego, CA
Pete - Pure has a few locations in the SD area. I went to the one in Carlsbad while on vacation, and I went twice in a week, in addition to a quick stop to grab cans to go. That's how good it was. I went Saturday at 11am and Friday at 230pm. They have a cool space. They offer full pours and flights, as well as cans and merch to go. Their sours and 'murky' AKA New England IPA's are their best stuff. I suggest avoiding the imperial stouts - they just aren't worth it (unless they're barrel-aged).

Picture
Pure Project Across The Sky
New England IPA - 6.5% ABV
Pete
Pictured 2nd from the left. Really tropical. It's creamy with a hint of coconut. Almost like a beer-y cocktail. Awesome.

Picture
Pure Project Angelic Harmonies
Wild Ale - 7.4% ABV
Pete
Quite funky and a little bit fruity. Very, very good beer.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Back to the Phuture I
New England IPA - 6.5% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Harland and North Park. Pictured on the left. Pretty dank, honestly comes off a little bit boozy which is odd for the ABV, but it's quite good.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Beast Below
Imperial Stout - 11.6% ABV
Pete
Pictured on the right. Collaboration with North Park. The coffee flavor balances this a little bit, but like other Pure stouts, it's too sweet. The coffee, chocolate, and banana flavors are nice, just too sweet.

Ratings: Pete - 3 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Beneath the Canopy
New England IPA - 6.7% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Smog City (haven't had any of those as of 12/20/23). Solid NEIPA that comes off super creamy, to the point that it is a little one note flavor-wise. Still, it's a good note.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Bonsai - Beech
Imperial IPA - 8.5% ABV
Pete
Quite bitter. It smells floral, but the flavor is just all bitter.

Ratings: Pete - 3 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Cashwood
Pale Ale - 5.4% ABV
Pete
Pictured on the left. Unique cryo hop smell and flavor. It tastes like raw hops smell. Solid.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Chocosaurus Rex
Imperial Stout - 12.5% ABV
Pete
A little sweet, very chocolatey. There's a good amount of spice (mostly cinnamon) to balance it too.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Cloud Mountain
Imperial New England IPA - 8.5% ABV
Pete
Really good NEIPA. Super creamy, but a slightly dry finish. No one flavor stands out, but what's here comes together well.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Clouds of Delusion
Imperial New England IPA - 8.7% ABV
Pete
Pictured 2nd from the right. Tastes super creamy, and it's obvious that it's strong.

Picture
Pure Project Corylus 2023
Imperial Stout - 13.4% ABV
Pete
Pictured on the right. Incredible beer. Super nutty, some chocolate, and maybe some spice in the finish?

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Dankness Rising
Imperial IPA - 8.3% ABV
Pete
Pictured in the middle. Collaboration with Cellarmaker. This is a damn good IPA with a lot going on. Dank is definitely front and center, but it also has a little sweetness creeping in (just enough to be a positive without going overboard), and just enough bitterness to remind you that you're drinking an IPA on the west coast. One of the best I've had of this style.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Déjà Fruit
Saison - 6% ABV
Pete
Pictured 2nd from the right. This looks unassuming, smells super sour, and the flavor is an excellent balance of tart, funk, and fruit.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Diamond Dust
New England IPA - 6.7% ABV
Pete
Pictured on the left. Super dank, quite drinkable too somehow. I loved this one. To be fair though, I had just come from wine tasting, so I was pretty well warmed up.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Distant Shores
New England IPA - 6.4% ABV
Pete
Pictured 2nd from the right. Solid hazy, pretty creamy, and lots of citrus. It mellows out as it warms, so drink it fast.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Double Dust
Imperial New England IPA - 8.7% ABV
Pete
Pictured in the middle. Excellent beer. A hint of booziness, but also very, very citrusy.

Picture
Pure Project Enchiridion Batch 2
Imperial Stout - 14.3% ABV
Pete
Pretty darn good, decent amount of bourbon flavor. If it wasn't so darn sweet, it'd be excellent.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Endless Vista
Imperial New England IPA - 8.3% ABV
Pete
Pictured in the middle. Super creamy, which kind of overwhelms the flavor. Some nice zestiness does come through in the finish.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Euphorik w/Mangoes
Wild Ale - 6.3% ABV
Pete
Pictured 2nd from the right. Unreal; super funky, a little tart, and the mango balances the funk, even though it is definitely a clear 3rd on the flavor.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Euphorik w/Strawberries
Wild Ale - 7% ABV
Pete

Sour - 6.9% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Fruition (haven't had any of those as of 7/8/24). Pictured 2nd from the right. Quite tart and a little fruity. The plum works magic with this one.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Forest Guardian
Imperial New England IPA - 9.5% ABV
Pete
Always a risk for me to get an IPA this strong, as most are to sweet for me. This is most definitely not that. Super creamy and smooth, and resin/dankness is the prevailing flavor. Tons of flavors going on from the wide variety of hops. Note that my judgment was clouded when I had this, as I was 3 beers in and hadn't had a meal in 24 hours.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Formless Reflections
New England IPA - 6.9% ABV
Pete
Nice and creamy. It doesn't look as hazy as others but definitely tastes it. The citrus is mellow but it's there and it's delicious.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture

Creamy and very zesty with a little boozy bite.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project Hydra Squared
Imperial Smoothie Sour - 8% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Mortalis. This beer is incredibly popular, but I just didn't like it. It's quite boozy and not a lot of fruit flavor comes through.

Ratings: Pete - 3 Shyoh's

Picture
Pure Project In For the Night
Imperial Stout - 13.5% ABV
Pete
Pictured on the right. Chocolate and peach really works for me. Pretty darn intense, though, so anything more than 5 ounces would probably be too much.

Picture
Pure Project Lady Jane's Lament
Old Ale - 12.2% ABV
