Oxbow Brewing Company

Newcastle, ME, as well as Portland and Oxford Maine
Pete - I visited the Portland location on a Thursday around happy hour timing. The outdoor area was quite popular. They have food that's pretty outstanding. Inside is a weird looking place, but you can get 4oz pours of everything, so try away. As expected in Portland, most beers are reasonably priced.

Oxbow Bowie
Smoked Blonde Saison - 5% ABV

Pictured in the middle. It really is 'lightly smoked', but the smoke definitely comes through as the main flavor. Given that I love smoked beers, this is delicious.

Oxbow Funkhaus
Farmhouse IPA - 7.5% ABV
Pete
Pictured in the middle. Definitely way more funky than it is IPA. The hops are there in the background, but the spiciness of the farmhouse and the funk of the Bretty are definitely more up front.

Oxbow Kasvot Kvass
Farmhouse Kvass - 5.5% ABV

Pictured on the left. It has a little bit of funky spice to it, and it's quite light. I didn't really get any of the blueberry flavor, just the color.

Oxbow Magenta
Sour Saison - 7.5% ABV

Lots of grape with a little bit of funk. It has a tiny bit of a medicinal flavor, as is the risk with grape, but I really like it.

Sour Saison - 5% ABV

Damn good. Mild-medium sour with a little fruitiness and a dry finish that you expect from a saison.

Saison - 5.5% ABV

Pictured on the right. This is on the edge of being a bit too funky for me, but it's still tasty. Dominated by funk.

Oxbow Post No Bills
Saison - 10.5% ABV

Nice spiciness to go along with a good amount of sweetness that comes along with a pale beer that's this strong. It's arguably too much sweetness, but I like it.

Oxbow Snowball 1
Black IPA - 5.5% ABV

Solid IPA with some good roasty flavor from the dark malts, but I probably wouldn't pay the premium price for it again.

Oxbow Saison Dell'Aragosta
Saison - 4.5% ABV

Pictured on the left. I don't taste lobster at all, but I don't taste oysters in oysters stouts usually either. What I do taste is a slightly salty addition to a really delicious spicy saison. Excellent.

Really excellent beer. A little spicy, a little funky, a little tart, and kind of a dry finish.

Pictured on the right. Decent amount of funk and spice with a subtle grape flavor that really rounds out the flavor. I've had wine-themed wild ales before, so I actually had pretty low hopes for this. Still pretty funky combined with grapes, but it worked really well in this one.
