Karl Strauss Brewing Company

Multiple locations including San Diego, CA
Pete - I went to the taproom in La Jolla. It's a pretty small bar, with a nice food menu. They offer flights, and have a few offerings made by other breweries. It's almost more restaurant than brewery. You can probably sample the entire beer menu in one trip, which is nice.

Karl Strauss 31st Anniversary Ale
Scotch Ale - 11% ABV
Pete
Caramel flavor really helps highlight the whiskey-ness of this beer. It's quite good if you don't mind booziness, which is very prevalent.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Karl Strauss Boat Shoes
New England IPA - 7.2% ABV
Pete
Relatively mild. Calling this a New England IPA is a bit of a stretch, as it's not really hazy enough, but some of the fruity flavors are there, albeit milder than you'd expect.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Karl Strauss Frank The Dank
Imperial IPA - 8.5% ABV
Pete
Not quite as dank as I was expecting. The bitterness balances it out, though the dankness is definitely there in the finish.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Karl Strauss Mosaic Session IPA
Session IPA - 5.5% ABV
Pete
Pictured on the left. I'm a big mosaic guy, so this works for me. There isn't a huge amount of flavor, which can be expected in a session beer, but what's there really highlights mosaic. A little dank and some tropical citrus - super drinkable.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Karl Strauss Ten Beers For Breakfast
Breakfast Stout - 6.9% ABV
Pete
Obvious vanilla and maple - exactly what you want in a breakfast stout. Not too sweet either, as it's balanced by a hint of coffee.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's
