Grimm Artisanal Ales

Grimm 1st Anniversary
Imperial/Triple IPA - 11% ABV
Pete
I've managed to have 31 different beers from Grimm already, and I don't even live in the same state. The 1 year anniversary sounded fishy, and it is. They opened in 2013, but moved to an actual physical location a year ago. As for this one, it's incredibly impressive at 11%. It's a little sweet and a little boozy, which is hard to avoid at that level, but there's enough creaminess and citrus flavor to get past that. Probably could've been better at 9%, but it's still great.

Grimm Afterimage
Imperial New England IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
A little bit a bitterness and a ton of creaminess in the texture. Not super carbonated. Lots of tropical flavor, highlighted by papaya for me. Very tasty and super drinkable.

Grimm American Grimm
Baltic Porter - 8.6% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with American Solera (hence the name). Super toasty at first with a little sweetness mixed in and a really light body for a beer this dark. Excellent.

Picture
Grimm Apricot Pop!
Berliner Weisse - 4.8% ABV
Pete
Incredible beer. Medium to high sour with a creamy mouthfeel, juicy backbone, and a little extra carbonation that makes you want to come back quickly for more.

Picture
Grimm Apricot Rebus
Sour - 5.5% ABV
Pete
This is an incredible sour. It is fruity going down (wouldn't be able to pinpoint apricot), then finishes with a nice tart bite.

Grimm BFF
Tripel IPA - 9% ABV
Pete
I love IPA's and I love tripel's, so I had extremely high hopes for this one. I like the Belgian spiciness to it, but it is just too bitter for me. It doesn't have a high IBU content, so it must have been something else, but that overwhelming bitterness (which I don't expect from a tripel) was a shame.

Picture
Grimm Bomp
IPA - 6.8% ABV
Pete
Definitely not my favorite IPA. It's got a little citrus, but overwhelmed by bitterness and too much malty flavor for me.

Picture
Grimm Bright Light
IPA - 6.5% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Prison City (haven't had any of those as of 12/25/22). Slightly bitter and super zesty IPA. Very tasty.

Picture
Grimm Butterfly Door
Imperial IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Incredibly citrusy aroma dominated by orange and lemon. Super creamy texture goes along with those flavors and a hint of peppery-ness at the end. Unreal.

Picture
Grimm Cassiopeia
Imperial Porter - 10% ABV
Pete
Really roasty and rich, while also being chocolatey and sweet, yet somehow still fairly drinkable. Definitely don't notice the booze. Awesome beer.

Picture
Grimm Catch Wave
New England IPA - 7.5% ABV
Pete
My first reaction to this was that it smells and tastes like a Tree House. Pretty good considering the average rating of the 15 IPA's I've had from there (1/31/19) is 5.6. This is a little creamier and has a drier finish than your standard NEIPA, but it still has everything you want. Juicy and hazy, glorious.

Picture
Grimm Cherry Raspberry Pop!
Berliner Weisse - 4% ABV
Pete
Pretty sour and I love raspberry, so that combo is going to get me every time. The thickness of it also makes it seem like a milkshake.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Cloud Landing
Imperial New England IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Super creamy. Some citrus flavor comes through, but I didn't get much dank. The creaminess dominates a little too much, but I still wouldn't kick this out of bed.

Picture
Grimm Color Field
Sour - 4.7% ABV
Pete
Pretty sour, but not too overwhelming, with a hint of sweetness to balance it out a bit. Delicious.

Picture
Grimm Crystal Vibration
New England IPA - 7% ABV
Pete
Aroma is tons of fruit, highlighted by strawberry. Flavor is more peachy and a little bit dry. Finishes with a peppery lemon aftertaste. Really really good.

Grimm Cube: Cuvee #1
Sour - 6.5% ABV

This is a pretty sour beer that is also still somehow quite malty. It doesn't really work.

Ratings: Pete - 3 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Double Negative
Imperial Stout - 10% ABV
Pete
Incredible. Just an absolute chocolate bomb, with some other subtle flavors in there to support it. So much flavor. I'm 'positive' you'll like this (see what I did there?).

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Dreamweapon
IPA - 6.4% ABV
Pete
Smells nice, albeit fairly mellow, with some citrusiness to it. It doesn't have a ton of flavor going down, but it finishes crisp and refreshing.

Picture
Grimm Gamelan Pop!
Fruited Sour - 6% ABV
Pete
This is an interesting one. The base flavor is good, and there's a creaminess to it. The kaffir lime flavor is outrageously strong though. Combined with the creaminess it left me feeling like I had just chewed on some kaffir lime leaves. Can't win 'em all.

Picture
Grimm Gravity of Smile
Imperial IPA - 9% ABV
Pete
Glorious beer. A little bit of a creamy mouthfeel, with a hint of pine flavor to go along with a citrus bomb. Hides the booze well.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Gravity of Surprise
Imperial New England IPA - 9% ABV
Pete
Another winner. Super fruity, with the dominant flavor being tons of mango. It's on the sweet side, but the level of fruit flavor makes that seem more natural than many IPA's of this gravity.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Hyperfocus Galaxy
Imperial New England IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Super dank (but not undrinkably so) with a really dry and a little earthy finish. Excellent beer. Love me some galaxy.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Icing On The Cake
Imperial Stout - 10% ABV
Pete
Pretty rich going down with milk chocolate flavors. Finishes a bit more bitter, giving hints of dark chocolate. Quite delicious.

Picture
Grimm Jam Don't Shake
Imperial Milk Stout - 17% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Other Half (haven't had any of those as of 4/22/19). This is a lot. It really does taste a bit like a PB&J. It's more jelly than peanut butter, but man, to make a 17% ABV beer taste like PB&J with only a small amount of booziness is really impressive (it smells much boozier than it tastes).

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Kites Are Fun
Imperial IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Delicious, very citrusy IPA with a good amount of bitterness to it. The citrus/bitter combo makes it like you've got some fruit rind in it. My only complaint is that it was a little flat.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Lambo Door
Imperial IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Super creamy beer with a big punch of citrus flavor. Creaminess is more notable than citrus, excellent beer.

Picture
Grimm Light Year
Imperial IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
I was a bit inebriated when I had this bad boy, but it was quite good, just ask drunk Pete: "Smells incredibly citrusy but is also tasting that way. It’s a little bitter but yum". That's a 'really drunk but trying really hard to write full sentences' review right there.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Lumen
New England IPA - 6.4% ABV
Pete
A little bit of citrus comes through, but the ultra-creaminess of this beer dominates everything else. Still good, but kinda one note.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Magnetic Tape
American IPA - 6.4% ABV
Pete
Smells dank. The flavor is a much milder version of that, but it has a bit of a strange aftertaste that really wasn't for me. Can't win 'em all.

Ratings: Pete - 3 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Mango Guava Pop!
Berliner Weisse - 4.8% ABV
Pete
Creamy and a touch fruity, not really sour at all (definitely less than the other Pop! variations I've had). Very drinkable.

Grimm Maximum Delight
Imperial IPA - 8% ABV

Outstanding beer. Smells and tastes super citrusy with a hint of piney-ness in the finish. Absolutely no bitterness.

Grimm Maximum Impulse
IPA - 6.5% ABV
Pete
Very light body on this beer. The flavor is subtle coconut and melon. Goes down easy.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Moon Dreams
Oatmeal Stout - 5.7% ABV
Pete
Extremely roasty. Delicious coffee flavor leaning towards the bitter side, even though it smells like it's going to be ultra sweet. Don't let that fool you. Not quite as rich and creamy as some other oatmeal stouts, but I can get over that.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Power Pop!
Berliner Weisse - 4.8% ABV
Pete
This is so different. It was described as a "dessert Berliner", so I didn't know what the hell to expect. After drinking it, I understand. It's sweet and creamy, with a hint of sour. Nothing like anything I've ever had before.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Grimm Rhythm Force
Imperial New England IPA - 8% ABV

This is a solid, albeit fairly mild, NEIPA that won't blow you away.

Ratings: Pete - 4 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Shadow Work
Flanders Oud Bruin - 7% ABV
Pete
A little sour and a little malty. That description could have this beer go a variety of ways, but it worked quite well with this one.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Skyspace
Sour - 5% ABV
Pete
Amazing sour. Definitely taste raspberry, but it isn't too fruity. There's a hint of sour and just enough salt (if you think about it, you'll notice it) to balance it perfectly. Worth splurging on.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Splish
Imperial IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Great creamy IPA. Good amount of hoppiness and a little bit bitter, but the creaminess from the oats really defines this one.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Sunshine Pop!
Berliner Weisse - 4.8% ABV
Pete
Pretty awesome, hard to describe beer. The best description I can give is that it's like drinking a lemon square. It's tart, but it had some body to it.

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Grimm Super Spruce
Gose - 4.7% ABV

This is very lemony and easy to drink, but really isn't worth the premium price.

Ratings: Pete - 3 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Super Swoon
Gose - 4.5% ABV
Pete
Excellent. Fruity and sour with a tiny hint of coconut that makes it a little more tropical. As I so eloquently put it while I was drinking it "there's some coconut in there but, like, good coconut."

Ratings: Pete - 6 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Super Symmetry
Gose - 4.8% ABV
Pete
This isn't bad. It's mildly sour, but definitely could use some more flavor.

Ratings: Pete - 3 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Teddy Bear Picnic
Imperial New England IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
Super tropical beer. Lots of citrus and juicy flavors, along with quite a bit of coconut. The coconut is too much for me, but it says something that I still love this beer despite it.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Telekinesis
Sour - 5.3% ABV
Pete
Smells pretty funky, but that doesn't come through in the taste at all. Super light body, with a medium amount of sourness and a tiny bit of hops. Super crushable.

Ratings: Pete - 5 Shyoh's

Picture
Grimm Tesseract
Double IPA - 8% ABV
Pete
When I had this, I had no idea what I was about to drink, just took this one on blind faith from a bartender after another keg was kicked and this one took over. It was the best beer I've had at that bar, and I've had many. It has great IPA flavor, but doesn't taste nearly as strong as it is.
