Aslin Beer Company

Herndon, VA

Picture
Aslin 4odas Bro
Imperial New England IPA - 8.3% ABV
Pete
Smells like pineapple and passion fruit, but the flavor is much different: dry and dank with some of that citrus in the background. The combination of smell and flavor really makes this an excellent beer. Definitely a fan of the mosaic.

Aslin Berliner Weisse w/Boysenberry, Blueberry, & Blackberry
Berliner Weisse - 3.5% ABV
Pete
Smells a little weird, but it tastes great. Little bit of creaminess in the texture, pretty sour and a touch fruity, and finishes with a hint of saltiness.

Aslin Big Silly
Sour IPA - 7% ABV
Pete
This is a combination of things that could easily go very, very wrong: fruit, sour, hops, and vanilla. This really pulls it off. Great beer with all those things somehow working together.

Aslin Cat Theory
American IPA - 7% ABV
Pete
Very good mix of the west coast and NE styles. A little bitterness, but still hazy and juicy. That said, the flavor level is a bit low. It's very drinkable, but also somewhat forgettable if you aren't really paying attention to the flavors.

IPA - 5.5% ABV

Super refreshing beer. Lemon-lime flavor. The lime is unusual for beer, but it works quite well.

Aslin Double Orange Starfish
Imperial New England IPA - 8.3% ABV

This is dangerous. Big time juice bomb, and orange is at the forefront. Not sweet though, so it goes down fast.

Aslin Fancy Sauce
Imperial Stout - 10% ABV

Maple bacon s'mores sounds like a good set of flavors for a beer, and there's definitely some of that in this, but it's borderline undrinkable because of how crazy sweet it is. It might be good in 4-5 ounce form, but not a full pint.

Aslin Genius Kitchen
Imperial Stout - 15% ABV
Pete
My goodness. It's basically a chocolate covered strawberry in liquid form, and it clocks in at 15% alcohol. Do whatever you can to get your hands on this. It won my best beer award at Extreme Beer Fest, and it had stiff competition.

Aslin Green Hell
New England IPA - 6.5% ABV

This is very unique in that the dominant citrus flavor is lime. It's almost like a lime creamsicle. I loved this, but others do not, so this is a real hit or miss beer. Big time hit for me.

Aslin Honeymoon Pajamas
Imperial IPA - 8.5% ABV

Zesty and melony. Some don't like melony beers, but I do, and the combination with zestiness is really excellent.

Aslin How Now Brown Cow w/Peanut Butter, Chocolate & Coffee
Milk Stout - 6% ABV

Some nice nutty flavor, but this is just WAY too sweet.

Aslin Johnny Hammersticks
Imperial IPA - 8.5% ABV

Collaboration with Tripping Animals (haven't had any of those as of 3/11/21). Pretty funny name, pretty horrible beer. Dank and coconut are not things that go together.

Aslin Master of Karate
Imperial New England IPA - 8.4% ABV
Pete
This didn't have a ton of flavor, but it's super easy to drink. Usually those things don't come with an 8.4% alcohol beer, but here we are.

Aslin Mind the Hop
Imperial New England IPA - 9.4% ABV
Pete
A lot of sediment in this can. Make sure you pour it into your glass. Since mine is a little too small, I have to take a few sips before pouring the rest of the beer in there. The first few sips were a little dull and flat, but once the sediment was dumped in, it was amazing. Huge burst of citrus and a much brighter color after that, and it wasn't too sweet despite its strength. Excellent beer.

Aslin New Beer Idea Number 1
New England IPA - 6.8% ABV
Pete
Collaboration with Black Project (haven't had any of those as of 2/18/20). This beer defines the style that I know I like more than the average beer drinker. It's peppery and dank, but also enough citrus just to remind you that it's there.

Aslin Nuances of Meaning
IPA - 6.7% ABV

Really easy to drink refreshing beer. Not a crazy amount of flavor, but what's there is quite delightful, with grapefruit leading the way, giving it a slight bitterness.

Aslin Purple Banana
Pastry Imperial Stout - 15% ABV

The name is misleading, but man is this good. It tastes like a chocolate covered strawberry with a drizzle of peanut butter. Somehow, it's also 15% alcohol. Byeeeeeee.

Aslin Rookie Card
New England IPA - 5.5% ABV

Pretty creamy with tropical citrus flavor. The flavor is fairly mellow for the style, likely due to the low alcohol level. Still, quite good, and super easy to drink.

Aslin Time For That
Barleywine - 13% ABV

Very tasty. Definitely get some brown sugar and vanilla, but the spice from the cinnamon is what dominates the flavor for me. They packed a lot of flavor in here, and it hides the booze well.

Aslin Under The Wire
IPA - 5.5% ABV

Collaboration with Two Roads. Pretty dry finish, very drinkable. Doesn't have a ton of flavor, so it doesn't really blow you away, but I could have a lot of these fast.

Aslin Wraparound Eyes
Imperial IPA - 8.3% ABV

Collaboration with Sapwood Cellars (haven't had any of those as of 1/21/21). This is...not good. I generally find that adding wine grape juice to beer is a good thing, but not in an IPA. Wine and hops don't mix well (at least not these hops).
